I would like some help understanding why the rating system doesn't display on a default install of Joomla and one one line test article with ratings set to show for that article. Nothing else has been changed. This is the same thing the Joomla rating system does. I found the following code in ji_votitaly.php:

if (isset($row->rating_count) && $params->get( 'show_vote' ) && !$params->get( 'popup' )) {

I changed it to:

if ($params->get( 'show_vote' ) && !$params->get( 'popup' )) {

removing the isset($row->rating_count). Why are you checking the rating->count? I just want to know if I'm missing something. Because as I said the default Joomla rating system is the same. I imagine there is a reason but I can't figure out why. I only found the problem by accidently turning on all parms and clicking the article title. I noticed on Joomla's bug tracker a similar problem that someone said it only shows on articles that have a "read more...". I haven't tried this yet so I don't know. I really just want to know the logic behind it. - Thanks

By the way. I read your FAQ as well. I'm just trying to understand the reason why you wouldn't want to begin with a 0 vote count. You say "add votes yourself" but doesn't that defeat the purpose of voting?

I agree with you.

In blog view, the rating system appear only when you open the article. But when you have small articles, it's not convenient to add a "read more" button just to allow the users to vote.

It's not fair to vote yourself for your articles. When there is hundreds of ratings it's not a problem, when you get only a few ratings it have an influence.

Your hack works fine, thanks to share it.

Yes probably we need to make the option configurable. We initially wanted to make the plugin as an exact replacement of the Joomla! core rating system (so our check are the same of the core.) and keep it as simple as possible...

May be we will release the new version soon. Thanks guys for the collaboration!
