NYUAD and Etihad Cargo Partnership
NYU Abu Dhabi (http://www.uaeusaunited.com/story/nyu-abu-dhabi/) partnered with Etihad Cargo for an intensive summer course that takes four weeks. The course, which is called Driving Genius, will be looking at how the different aspects of design principles, programming, and robotics could help in developing solutions that are aimed the industry of cargo airline.

Access to Students
The student had access to the warehouse operations of Etihad Cargo (https://www.etihadcargo.com/pages/default.aspx) to develop a clear understanding of how usually things work. Also, to be capable of identifying processes where efficiencies can potentially be improved. The students were divided into three groups; they were tasked with developing and designing feasible solutions that are tailor-made using virtual technology.

The Presentation
After the four weeks, four prototypes were presented by students to Robert Fordee, who is the head of cargo handling and senior vice president of Etihad Cargo. The prototypes were:
• HoloCargo – A virtual reality system and 3D scanning that could help loadmasters in building boxes pallets in an environment of 3D.
• Viz360 – An app for virtual training.
• Paper Trail – An app for tracking cargo documents and airway bills.
• Cargie – Load carrying robot that has the ability of machine learning.

Benefits of the Course
The students have the opportunity of testing their models in the organization’s laboratory.
